Share Of $10.00 Million Lotto Jackpot
NR 02-22-03 ... On Thursday, Feb 20, a woman from Santa Rosa Beach claimed her ⅓ share of the $10.00 million Lotto jackpot from the Dec 25 drawing at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee. Leticia Waldrop (39) waited almost two months to redeem her ticket because she was at home with her first child, a boy born on Nov 29, 2002. Leticia opted to collect her award in form of 30 annual installments of approximately $136,000 each, instead of receiving a single cash payment of $2,287,993. She arrived at the Lottery in the afternoon and was accompanied by her mother Eleanor.
The Dec 25 jackpot of $10.00 million was shared among three winners. Leticia was the third to claim her prize. The first share was claimed by Harold K. Richter from Delray Beach on Dec 27 [story] and the second share by Harold J. Rooks, Sr. from Jacksonville Beach on Jan 2 [story].
"He was my first jackpot!" Leticia said about her baby. "I'm an occasional player, but I have been playing a long time!" she added.
Leticia is a big football fan and used the jersey numbers of two of her favorite players — as well as family ages and birth dates - to select her winning combination [7 – 13 – 21 – 29 – 39 – 47].
"The 29 is the day my baby was born," she indicated. "The 39 is my age and 47 is my husband's age. The 13 is Dan Marino's number and 21 is one of Deon Sanders' numbers. I usually play Joe Montana's number, but this time I played Deon's. And the 7 is from another important birth date for me."
Leticia bought her lucky ticket at the Tom Thumb store, located at 5044 West County Highway 30-A in Santa Rosa Beach. The retailer will receive a $3,333 bonus [= ⅓ of $10,000] for selling one of the three jackpot winning tickets.
Leticia, who is a therapist for neglected and abused children, stated that she has no immediate plans to leave her important work. However, she mentioned that she wants to spend as much time as possible with her newborn child.
She also revealed that she has no lavish plans for her money and that she wants to deposit most of it into a savings account. Nonetheless, she expressed that she wants to buy a new house in the near future.
Leticia is the first Florida Lotto winner with a ticket from Walton County, the first winner with a ticket from the city of Santa Rosa Beach, and the 748th overall winner since the game began in 1988.
Total ticket sales for this jackpot generated approximately $8.2 million for public education in Florida.

Vero Beach Man Claims $35.00 Million Lotto Jackpot
NR 02-12-03 ... On Monday, Feb 10, a man from Vero Beach claimed the $35.00 million Lotto jackpot from the Feb 8 drawing at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee. Ernest W. Jervis (74) chose to collect his award in form of a lump-sum payment of $19,829,541 instead of receiving 30 annual installments of approximately $1.16 million each.
Ernest is the second Lotto jackpot winner with a ticket from Fort Pierce in less than 2 months. On Dec 14, Gerard A. Tschiskale (77) from Fort Pierce won a ¼ share of the $104.85 million Lotto jackpot – also with a ticket purchased in that city. He claimed his $26.21 million prize on Feb 4 [story].
